Following an intense writing period after my marriage broke up, my first solo show ‘Background Boy’ emerged. For many years I had been writing songs whilst musically directing fabulous performers (Bob Downe, Meow Meow, Michael Dalley, Tommy Bradson) and staying in the “background".
The number of songs pouring out was getting overwhelming, and after my split, without anyone else to sing them, I realised that for the time being, I just had to sing them myself. It was very daunting moving from the role of solo performer, but the weight of the songs was pushing me to present them to the world.
